Ministries
Pastoral Assistant
This ministry is taken up at the request of the Parish Priest;
it is achieved by attending a year long course at Brentwood covering
many aspects of the Catholic faith. After the year the candidate
is commissioned by the Bishop at Brentwood Cathedral. There is no
set function for the Pastoral assistant and is dependant on the
needs of each parish.
Extra Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist
This ministry is undertaken at the request of the Parish Priest;
there are two main functions. The most visible is during Mass where
the Ministers help with the distribution of Holy Communion. The
other is to take the body of Jesus to those who cannot attend Mass
due to illness. The training lasts for one whole day. The training
is led by a Pastoral Assistant.
Reader
This is open to all members of the Church and is undertaken on
a voluntary basis. After training (about an hour) the reader will
be asked to read at one mass every 4-5 weeks. The training is led
by a Pastoral Assistant.
Server
This can be undertaken by any one who has made their First Holy
Communion; it can also be for adults as well. The training is given
by the Parish MC.
Usher
This is undertaken on a voluntary basis and has the function of
greeting people as they enter the Church, handing out Hymn books
and news letters etc. The Usher will also help in showing people
to their seats and on some occasions help with logistics at Holy
Communion.
